ABOUT

Water Wells for Africa (WWFA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the installation and maintenance of safe water infrastructure in the rural communities of Malawi, Africa.

BEGINNINGS

In 1994, Kurt Dahlin led a team to Malawi to asses the humanitarian needs of the local Chewa people and other Malawian tribes. He was surprised by the lack of clean water available to these villagers and the resulting disease. Dahlin was challenged by the situation, but profoundly moved to help.

During this initial trip Dahlin realized that the water infrastructure in the United States “has been provided for us by people we don’t even know.” Today Dahlin describes the water crisis in Malawi saying, “The problem is not lack of water, but lack of infrastructure. We are not going to wait for big governments to step in and come up with a solution. We are going to be the solution for as many people as possible.”

TODAY

In the last decade Kurt has led projects and campaigns that have installed or repaired over 100 water wells. Each well serves more than 2,000 people each day.

Our wells provide clean water for over 200 thousand villagers each day.

VISION

WWFA personnel travel to Malawi each summer to reevaluate the conditions of the wells, celebrate new boreholes and survey new areas of great need. We take pride in keeping low overhead costs here in the States while also building lasting relationships with small businesses and local leaders in Malawi.

We work closely with local drilling agencies in Blantyre, Malawi, and we supervise sanitation education with key villagers and insure reliable maintenance at every well site. We also partner with indigenous leaders who oversee logistics, transportation, interpretation, and guide us in cross-cultural communication.

We believe that water is the foundation for community health and the vehicle for strong future development. We believe that partnerships done right help small communities grow.

NEWS

Adopt A School - Little Syabonga wants to become a civil engineer. Yet she must spend the better part of her day just finding water for her family. The road to a better future is as simple as water. Syabonga is just one example of thousands of primary school children who are not able to focus on school due to lack of basic daily needs.

We want to change everything by providing a sustainable pure water sources at 25 rural school locations. For less than $4,000 we can install merry-go-round style pump systems at school sites where everyone in the surrounding areas will be served.

Our Adopt A School project has the ability to provide clean water for more than 50,000 people a day.

You can promote health, education, and play by supporting our Adopt A School water project today.

For more Adopt A School information please email us today at info@waterwellsforafrica.org. We would be happy to send you our packet of school sites and how you, your school, family, community or place of worship can sponsor a Play Pump.
